Piranhas for sale on-line

Where Can I Find Piranhas for Sale On-Line?

A few of my readers have asked me if I know any good sites on-line that have piranhas for sale. That made me realize that not everyone has access to a local “piranha dealer” so I thought it would be a good idea to do some research into the subject. Here’s a few sites that I’ve come across and some information that might be useful for you:

Disclaimer – I haven’t actually bought any piranhas from these sites myself, so I can’t comment on shipping speed, health of the piranhas when they get to your door, etc. I’m just posting the information so that it’s easier for you to find in one spot, instead of having to look around for it. I hope this helps.

eBay

Aqua Scape Online

  • Web site: http://www.aquascapeonline.com/prodList.asp?item=Piranhas&idCategory=22
  • Types of piranhas available: You name it and they seem to have it.
  • Shipping:  Not sure. Exact Shipping information not available on-line, however based on some comments I’ve seen in the forums, I believe they only ship to the United States (US).
  • Pros: Great selection on-line to order from. Simply add them to your “cart”, checkout and wait for the shipment to arrive.  You can also sign up for their newsletter to keep up-to-date on new arrivals. They also have a great selection of other fish.
  • Cons: It would be handy if they gave some shipping details before the checkout process. That way, you know exactly whether or not you can even get them where you live, before you start browsing.

Tangled Up in Cichlids

  • Web site: http://tangledupincichlids.com/
  • Types of piranhas available: Varies from week to week or month to month. Suggest you keep an eye on the “Stock List & Prices” section until you see something that suits your fancy.
  • Shipping:  Ships to most US and Canadian locations and has a few options to choose from depending on your exact location. Click here for shipping/order details.
  • Pros: Jeff Rapps, the owner of the site, has a great reputation for his customer service skills and experience. I doubt you’ll go wrong with this site.
  • Cons: Haven’t been able to come up with one yet.

Shark Aquarium

  • Web site: http://sharkaquarium.com/index.php/store-categories/piranha
  • Types of piranhas available: Great selection including caribe, red belly, Pygocentrus Ternetzi, and more.
  • Shipping:  Mainly ships within the US, however it can make arrangements to ship outside the US for a fee. Click here for shipping/order details.
  • Pros: Great selection on-line to order from. Simply add them to your “cart”, checkout and wait for the shipment to arrive. Also, they have been in business for many years and have a great reputation on-line for their knowledge and customer service.
  • Cons: Again, haven’t been able to come up with one yet.

Rainforest Farms International

  • Web site: http://www.rfitropicalfish.com/freshwater_piranhas
  • Types of piranhas available: As far as I can tell, they only carry red bellied piranhas (Pyocentrus nattereri) and they seem to be out of stock most of the time.
  • Shipping: Mainly US, Canada and a few South American countries. Click here for shipping details.
  • Pros: The actual purchasing process can all be done on-line and they have a great selection of other fish.
  • Cons: Not a great selection of piranhas, at least for the past month or so.

  1. Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that I made a few updates to this post today. Thanks to some help from a few forum members at MonsterFishKeepers (http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/), I was able to add two other great sites that you can choose from: Tangled Up in Cichlids and Shark Aquarium. Be sure to check them out!

One more thing – when it comes to shipping piranhas overseas (for example, if you decide to purchase one from Amazon Basin UK), I’ve been told that most of the time they will be shipped using transhippers. Not a big deal except that you need to expect a longer shipment time (i.e.: a few weeks versus a few days). For more information on how they work, check out: http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=290937

    Until L8tr.

  2. Hey Everyone – Just wanted to let you know that I made a quick update to this post. Apparently “Amazon Basin UK” is no longer online so I removed the information from the post. Cheers!
